Background to N&P
YOUR LOCAL BUILDING SOCIETY
N&P is a local society through and through with most of our staff in branches coming from the local community. We have a network of branches in the east of England, additionally we support those expatriates choosing to move to a sunnier climate, with a branch in Gibraltar.
Just over 800 staff in branches and support functions at the Peterborough Principal Office aim to deliver a first class service to more than half a million customers, most of whom are members and live near their N&P branch.
IT’S YOUR BUILDING SOCIETY
Maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction is paramount, but it is always good to get direct feedback from our members, which we do regularly at Members’ Meetings. It’s clear from these that our members have a high level of trust in N&P, and want us to continue as a mutual building society. The N&P Board has confirmed its commitment to this position.
Being a mutual means we are effectively owned by our members. We focus on providing the highest standards of service for all our customers instead of generating profits for equity shareholders. Any profits we make are ploughed back into better products for our customers and improving our branch network.
WE AIM TO STAY AS A BUILDING SOCIETY
At N&P, we believe we should remain a mutual building society – ensuring that we work for the benefit of our customers, and not for equity shareholders.
As part of this commitment, we set up a Charitable Assignment scheme in October 2000, which means that every member joining agrees to assign to charity any future windfall benefits to which they might become entitled in the event of the Society transferring its business to any corporate body.
Put simply, this was done to protect our loyal members, and to discourage people from only joining N&P purely to benefit from any such windfall.
A Greener Society
On 1st January 2007, N&P became one of the first building societies to be ‘carbon neutral’.
