James Randi Educational Foundation

a place to discuss skepticism, critical thinking, the paranormal and science in a friendly and lively way. (tm?) :p

Been active for a short time and am active there …. on one single thread, mine lol. But fuck me does it take up a lot of time!!!

So far, I’ve made 179 posts in that thread alone, it’s 10 pages long and hasn’t been quite so friendly as the site advertises.

On the other hand, wading through the trolls which you find on almost any forums and discussion groups, I think this may be where I’ve engaged in discussion of what I personally consider the highest quality so far.

Some people (active on my thread anyway) do seem to display all kinds of valuable attributes which means discussions with them can be very enriching.

Although, I get a feeling the critical thinking and scepticism is pushed to such an extreme it seems to have constrained and structured some people’s thinking to such a degree as to make it almost absolutely inflexible.

Particularly lacking (I feel) is the ability to “see things from someone else’s perspective”.

Anyway, can’t say more for now since it’s been such a short time.

Though the moderation team is obviously communitarian and biased (I did manage to get banned “for ever” from that forum, which was quickly changed to a 24 hour suspension)…
